About Bill

Bill Lohr has a 35-year career as a world-renowned musician. He began playing in Richmond, VA, and then attended Berklee College of Music in Boston. Since then, he has:


  • Toured internationally as pianist for legendary singer Lou Rawls
  • Accompanied noted singers such as Al Jarreau and Carmen McRae
  • Appeared on The Tonight Show, The Merv Griffin Show, and others
  • Played at Carnegie Hall, Lincoln Center and the London Palladium
  • Conducted his big band for the Academy Awards' Governors' ball and for the Director's Guild Awards.
  • Served as pianist-conductor for Andy Williams at his Moon River Theater in Branson, MO.


Bill currently lives in Dallas, TX where he teaches jazz piano and writes, records, and performs with his wife, singer Peggy Lohr. The techniques he shares with his students form the basis of his current book Bass Motion, Chord Substitution, and Improvisation.
